What is this?

The Mailchimp integration messages new subscribers on WhatsApp as soon as they join one of your Mailchimp audiences. Each connection watches one audience.

What can I do here?

  • Send a WhatsApp template when someone subscribes
  • Connect several audiences, each with its own message
  • See every request Mailchimp sent, including failures
  • Have every request checked with Mailchimp’s own signature

How to use it

1

Open the Mailchimp page

Go to Integrations, click Mailchimp, then Connect.
2

Enter your Mailchimp details

  1. Paste your Mailchimp API key, which ends in your data centre such as -us6 (in Mailchimp under Profile → Extras → API keys).
  2. Enter the audience name or ID, for example Newsletter.
3

Choose your messages

Pick the WhatsApp template to send for a new subscriber:Leave an event empty to send nothing for it.
4

Set up and activate

Click Set up and activate. The platform registers the webhook with Mailchimp for you and creates a ready-made automation that sends the right template for each event. You can open that automation in the builder any time.

Things to know

  • The customer’s phone number comes from the audience’s PHONE field, so your signup form must ask for it. Subscribers without a phone number can’t be messaged.
  • Repeats are ignored. If Mailchimp sends the same event twice, the customer isn’t messaged twice.
  • One connection per audience. To watch another audience, connect Mailchimp again with that audience’s name or ID.

Troubleshooting / Technical Notes

  • Connecting fails. Check the details you entered and that they belong to the right Mailchimp account. The error from Mailchimp is shown on the page.
  • No messages are sent. Check the connection shows Connected, a template is chosen for the event, and the template is approved.
  • A request shows as failed. Open the connection’s Activity tab and select the request to see the error and its raw body. A missing phone number is the most common cause.
  • Webhooks look missing. On the connection page, click Verify on Mailchimp to check they are still registered. If any are missing, disconnect and reconnect to register them again.
  • You rotated your key or token. Open the connection’s Settings tab and update the credentials.
