What is this?

A TikTok automation is a normal automation that runs on the TikTok channel. It can answer direct messages, reply to or moderate comments, respond to mentions, and welcome people who arrive from a TikTok ad or link.

What can I do here?

Choose a trigger, then add TikTok steps from the TikTok Messages group in the builder.

How to use it

  1. In Automations, create a new automation and choose the TikTok channel.
  2. Pick a trigger and fill in its options. For keyword matching, add at least one keyword. For a specific post, pick the post — the automation doesn’t run until you do.
  3. Add steps. Comment steps work only with the comment trigger (and TikTok Comment Reply also with the mention trigger).
  4. Save and activate.
TikTok does not allow direct messages to people who only commented, so after a normal comment you can reply publicly or moderate, but not DM. The exception is a High-intent comment (Comment-to-Message): TikTok allows one private reply per top-level comment on your own post, within 48 hours, when the user hasn’t chatted with you recently.

Troubleshooting / Technical Notes

  • The automation never runs. Check it’s active, the account shows Connected, a post is selected (for a specific post), and a keyword is added (for keyword matching).
  • A DM step isn’t offered after a comment. TikTok doesn’t allow DMs to commenters; use a public reply instead.
  • A reply was rejected. TikTok only allows DM replies after the customer has messaged you, within its messaging window.
  • Image messages don’t send. Image messages aren’t available in every market.
