# Threads

> Connect your Threads profile, publish posts, and answer replies and mentions from the inbox with public replies.

## What is this?

**Threads** is a channel for your Threads profile. Once it's connected you can publish and schedule posts, see how your profile performs, and answer **replies to your posts** and **mentions of your profile** from the shared inbox — with the same team, labels, automations and AI agents you use on other channels.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Threads has no direct messages.** The only conversations are replies to your posts and posts that mention you, and every answer you send is a **public reply** on Threads, up to 500 characters, text only.
>
> Threads needs to be included in your plan and enabled for your platform. If it isn't, the Channels page shows **Upgrade required**. You also need the Threads permissions on your account — see [Team](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/team.md).

## What can I do here?

* Connect a Threads profile, and add more profiles as separate channels if your plan allows
* [Publish and schedule posts](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/threads/publishing.md) — text, one image, one video, or a carousel
* See [views, engagement and followers](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/threads/insights.md) for your profile
* Answer replies and mentions from the inbox
* Start an [automation](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/threads/automations.md) when someone replies or mentions you — including automatically hiding a reply — or let an AI agent answer

## How to use it

### Connect a Threads profile

**1. Open Channels**

Go to **Channels**, find the **Threads** card, and click **Connect Threads**. (To add another profile, click **Add Threads profile**.)

**2. Approve access on Threads**

A Threads login window opens. Sign in and approve access. If nothing opens, your browser blocked the pop-up — allow pop-ups for the platform and try again.

**3. Check the card**

The card shows your **Username**, **Connected on**, when the access **expires**, the **Last token refresh** and the **Last reply or mention** received.

A Threads profile can be connected to **one channel only**.

### Status of the connection

| Status | What it means |
| - | - |
| **Connected** | Everything works |
| **Expired** | The access ran out and couldn't be renewed. Click **Reconnect** |
| **Access removed** | You removed the app's access on Threads. Click **Reconnect** |
| **Error** | Something went wrong — the card shows the last error |

The platform renews the access automatically about a week before it expires, so you normally never need to reconnect.

### Answer replies and mentions from the inbox

Replies to your posts and mentions arrive in the [inbox](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/inbox/overview.md) under the **Threads** channel. Each person who replies becomes a contact, identified by their Threads **username**. When you answer, the platform posts a **public reply** to their latest reply or mention.

* Only text can be sent — the attach, voice and image options are hidden on Threads conversations.
* To hide a reply on one of your posts automatically, use the **Threads Hide Reply** step in an [automation](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/threads/automations.md).
* Replies you write yourself on your own posts are ignored.
* Replies and mentions of **private** profiles aren't delivered by Threads.

### Disconnect Threads

On the Threads card click **Disconnect** and confirm. Replies and mentions stop arriving and scheduled posts fail. Your chats and contacts stay. To remove the whole channel and everything in it, use **Delete Channel** instead.

## Troubleshooting / Technical Notes

* **The card says "Upgrade required."** Threads isn't included in your plan or isn't enabled for your platform. Upgrade the plan or contact your administrator.
* **Connecting fails or the login window is blocked.** Allow pop-ups and try again. If the error says the profile is already connected, it belongs to another channel — a profile can only be attached once.
* **Replies don't show up in the inbox.** Check the card shows **Connected** and look at **Last reply or mention**. If the platform's Threads app isn't live yet, only accounts added as testers receive replies — see Threads settings.
* **The card says Expired.** Click **Reconnect** and approve access again.
* **I can't send an image or file.** Threads replies are text only, up to 500 characters.
