# AI Setting

> Add and activate the AI models your channel uses for text and voice — your own provider key, or the platform's AI.

## What is this?

The **AI Setting** tab holds the AI models your channel uses. [AI Agents](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/ai-agents/overview.md), the [AI Assistant](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/ai-assistant.md), AI steps in automations, AI rewrite and knowledge search all answer through the model you activate here. You can keep a **text** model and a **voice** model.

## What can I do here?

* See every saved AI configuration: Setting Type (**Text** or **Voice**), Provider, Model, Temperature, Max Tokens, Status and last updated date
* **Add AI Setting** with your own provider and API key
* Use the **platform's AI** instead of your own key — usage is charged from your wallet
* **Activate** one text and one voice configuration (only one of each can be active at a time)
* Edit or delete a configuration, and **Refresh** the list

## How to use it

### Add a configuration

1. Click **Add AI Setting**.

2. Choose the **Setting Type** (text or voice), the **Provider**, paste your **API Key**, and choose the **Model**. For voice, also choose a **Speaker**.

3. Set the **Endpoint** (if your provider needs a custom one), **Temperature** and **Max Tokens** as needed.

4. Save. The key is stored securely and shown masked afterwards.

### Use the platform's AI

If your platform offers its own AI, it appears as a provider named after the platform (for example *\[platform name] AI*). Choose it and you don't need an API key — it runs on the platform's AI and the cost of each call is taken from your wallet. Models may be grouped by tier: **Best**, **Better**, **Affordable** and **Cheapest**.

* You can switch it on only while it's available. If your wallet has no balance it shows *Your wallet has no balance. Add balance to turn this on.* — add funds in [Transactions](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/transactions.md).
* If the platform turns its AI off, or your wallet runs out, AI features stop with a clear message; there's no automatic fallback to another provider.
* Switching it off is always allowed.

### Activate a configuration

Click the power icon on a row to make it **Active**. Only one text and one voice configuration can be active at a time — activating another one deactivates the previous. Click the trash icon to delete a configuration.

## Troubleshooting / Technical Notes

* **I can't activate a second configuration.** Only one text and one voice configuration can be active at a time.
* **"Set up an active AI Setting for this channel to use the assistant."** Add a text configuration and activate it.
* **The platform AI says it isn't available.** The platform has switched it off, or your wallet has no balance.
* **An AI agent says there are no AI settings.** Add and activate one here, then pick it on the agent's [Channels](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/ai-agents/tabs/channels.md) tab.
* **My key doesn't show after saving.** That's intentional — saved keys are masked.
