# Mailchimp

> Send a WhatsApp message when someone subscribes to a Mailchimp audience.

## What is this?

The **Mailchimp** integration messages new subscribers on WhatsApp as soon as they join one of your Mailchimp audiences. Each connection watches **one audience**.

## What can I do here?

* Send a WhatsApp template when someone subscribes
* Connect several audiences, each with its own message
* See every request Mailchimp sent, including failures
* Have every request checked with Mailchimp's own signature

## How to use it

**1. Open the Mailchimp page**

Go to **Integrations**, click **Mailchimp**, then **Connect**.

**2. Enter your Mailchimp details**

1. Paste your **Mailchimp API key**, which ends in your data centre such as `-us6` (in Mailchimp under **Profile → Extras → API keys**).
2. Enter the **audience name or ID**, for example *Newsletter*.

**3. Choose your messages**

Pick the WhatsApp template to send for a new subscriber:

| Event | When it happens |
| - | - |
| **New subscriber** | Someone subscribes to the audience |

Leave an event empty to send nothing for it.

**4. Set up and activate**

Click **Set up and activate**. The platform registers the webhook with Mailchimp for you and creates a ready-made automation that sends the right template for each event. You can open that automation in the builder any time.

## Things to know

* **The customer's phone number** comes from the audience's **PHONE** field, so your signup form must ask for it. Subscribers without a phone number can't be messaged.
* **Repeats are ignored.** If Mailchimp sends the same event twice, the customer isn't messaged twice.
* **One connection per audience.** To watch another audience, connect Mailchimp again with that audience's name or ID.

## Troubleshooting / Technical Notes

* **Connecting fails.** Check the details you entered and that they belong to the right Mailchimp account. The error from Mailchimp is shown on the page.

* **No messages are sent.** Check the connection shows **Connected**, a template is chosen for the event, and the template is approved.

* **A request shows as failed.** Open the connection's **Activity** tab and select the request to see the error and its raw body. A missing phone number is the most common cause.

* **Webhooks look missing.** On the connection page, click **Verify on Mailchimp** to check they are still registered. If any are missing, disconnect and reconnect to register them again.

* **You rotated your key or token.** Open the connection's **Settings** tab and update the credentials.
