# Web Chat Tools

> See Web Chat visitors and search your Help Center.

## What is this?

Read-only tools for your Web Chat widget and Help Center.

These tools belong to the [Workspace MCP](https://docs.xpressbot.org/api-reference/mcp/workspace/overview.md). Each tool below shows its **Mode** (**Read** runs immediately; **Write** asks your MCP client to confirm first) and the **Permission needed** for it to appear for your key — "None" means every connected key sees it.

## What can I do here?

* See who is on your website right now and where they come from
* Search your public Help Center articles

## Tools

### `search_help_articles`

Search this channel's own Help Center articles: the web chat Knowledge Base, i.e. the FAQ and help content the business publishes for its customers. Not the product documentation (use search\_docs for how to use the platform).

**Mode:** Read · **Permission needed:** None

### `get_webchat_visitors`

Visitors of the channel's web chat sites over the last N hours (default 1, up to 168): total visits, top countries, most visited pages and the latest visits (country, city, page, referrer, time). No IP addresses.

**Mode:** Read · **Permission needed:** `widgetbuilder:view`

## Troubleshooting / Technical Notes

* **A tool I expect isn't offered.** The MCP server only offers tools whose required permission your API key's owner holds, re-checked on every call. Grant the permission shown on the tool — see [Team](https://docs.xpressbot.org/workspace/team.md).
* **A Write tool never seems to run.** Your MCP client asks you to approve every Write tool call. Check for a pending approval prompt.
* **A call returns an error.** See [MCP errors](https://docs.xpressbot.org/api-reference/mcp/errors.md).
